FORTNIGHT FEELS #3

WHAT WE'RE LISTENING TO, READING, LOVING, COVETING AND MAKING AT THE MOMENT ✨

Listening

Remi Wolf!!!! 🙌 There's just something about her music that speaks to me - I can't get enough. Think off-beat, soul-pop, visually dynamic videos and clever lyrics with a touch of humour. I highly recommend starting with her 2020 EP, I'm Allergic to Dogs. It's a banger from beginning to end, with my personal favourite being Hello Hello Hello

Reading

I recently devoured Kia Mau by Tina Ngata. I found it after reading her essay What's Required From Tangata Tiriti (People of the Treaty, AKA Pākeha). Kia Mau is a series of essays written in response to the 250th-anniversary celebrations of the arrival of Captain Crook in Aotearoa. Tina critically rebuttals state money being spent to celebrate his crime spree of murder, rape and pillaging under the commonly held belief that he was merely an intrepid explorer on a scientific expedition. The book introduced me to the Doctrine of Discovery, and as a Pākeha, it has left me with a lot to think about. I think it's a must-read for anyone who calls Aotearoa home as it addresses colonial fictions about the arrival of Europeans and the ongoing effects of that on Māori.

Working on

Here's a little hint at a new range of earrings that are coming soon. If you're thinking, surely they can't be genuine 1960s vintage etched moon cabochons on sterling silver hooks, you're absolutely right - good spotting! I can't wait to get them all finished and on the website next week - keep an eye out 👀
